#SocialImpactComms Job Board 96
You don't get invited to interviews? Here are 5 tips for you 🙌🏽
Hola, everyone!
Last month I asked you about your biggest challenge when applying for jobs. 60% of you said you struggle to get invited to interviews. I feel you, I’ve been there too! I asked around on LinkedIn and here are some tips I compiled for you 👇🏾
Rock the keywords 🎸. Yes, we all know targeting your CV strategically is a must. But how? Most organizations use Applicant Tracking Systems that automatically select candidates with matching keywords. Sometimes the most creative job applications (lots of colors, different fonts, visuals, etc.) are not read well by such systems. Here’s Jobscan, a tool that helps you optimize your CV. Make sure your cover letter includes those keywords too!
Find an expert on LinkedIn to look over your CV. Yes, I also feel shy about this. But it’s worth it. Try contacting senior professionals who have the jobs you are trying to pursue. Be honest and ask for support. Many people want to give something back to the #socialimpact community!
Create a creative portfolio. Comms jobs usually entail creative work, so use this as an opportunity to show your skills off! A personal website is great, but you could also collect samples of your previous work or screenshots of content you created on a PDF. Choose the best ones 🌟 and include data from your most successful campaigns.
Put yourself in your colleague’s shoes. What may their day-to-day challenges be? Why are they hiring for this particular role? What could be their potential strategic comms priorities? Social start-ups often lack plans and processes, big organizations may prioritize reputation work, and small organizations may need to invest more efforts in fundraising. As Iva Petkovic suggested: “In my application, I show that I understand who they are and where they want to go, and I communicate how my specific background can help them get there”.
Make it simple for the recruiter. Checking hundreds of job applications is an exhausting task 🤯 I have done it! I came across many off-topic applications or others that were extremely long and complex. I’d go for a neat design and prioritize the truly relevant information. For example, avoid adding your birthday, civil status, or nationality, unless the job post requires it. You don’t need to list all your previous jobs, just those relevant to the position. Help the recruiter connect the dots in your career story!
I hope these tips inspire you to create new job applications.
Good luck🍀

Our job boards follow these guidelines:
If you see this symbol: ⏰, it means the deadline for applications is really soon!
We include salary, deadlines, and other info if it’s written in the job post. We encourage all employers to practice salary transparency.
We post jobs that come across our feeds or are sent to us by our large network. You can help diversify our board by sharing any opportunities you find with us!
We do not post unpaid jobs/internships/traineeships as we do not support exploitation. We do, however, sometimes post volunteering roles for social impact organizations.
